As depleted resources, economic turmoil, piracy and political ineptitude take the world to the brink of collapse, the three superpowers launch a secret initiative to find a sustainable solution. As the project nears its completion, its higher ideals are sacrificed due to mounting global pressures, and the knowledge gained is used instead to create the ultimate weapon-100% lethal and accurate, delivered by stealth, and with no known defence against it. All goes according to plan until a programming error on a test in Afghanistan triggers a chain of events that compromises the weapon's secrecy and its ultimate purpose: to covertly wipe out whoever might threaten the superpowers' control of much-needed resources. The situation spirals out of control as the weapon falls into the hands of a ruthless criminal who turns it against its makers, threatening to disrupt the global balance of power and destroy the entire democratic process. US Senator Griffin Kirkland is tasked to find a solution to the threat. Grappling with his own ethical and personal dilemmas, and haunted by his own limitations, he is forced to draw on everything that he can learn about the weapon to find a way to render it impotent.
