A právě na pomoc a práci Britského výboru pro uprchlíky z Československa se soustředil autor této knihy. V aktivitách výboru vyniká pět osob – Doreen Warrinerová, Nicholas Winton, Trevor Chadwick, Bill Barazetti a Kanaďanka Beatrice Wellingtonová. Siru Nicholasi Wintonovi se dostalo za tuto záslužnou činnost náležitého uznání, ostatním však patřičné zásluhy přiznány nebyly. Autorovi se podařilo na základě archivních materiálů a výpovědí pamětníků zcela objektivně zrekonstruovat podíl práce jednotlivých aktérů pomoci a postarat se tak o to, aby jejich práce nebyla zapomenuta.
