William Fordyce Mavor

    William Fordyce Mavor was a Scottish teacher and priest who compiled educational books, many of which went through numerous editions. He also invented a system of shorthand, which he explained in a treatise entitled Universal Stenography, first published in 1779. His pedagogical works and writing innovations secured him a notable place in the education of his era.
