Richard Maitland Books
Sir Richard Maitland was a notable Scottish poet and jurist who served in the courts of James V and Mary of Guise. His poetry often engages with social and political themes, reflecting the turbulent condition of 16th-century Scotland. His works are either satirical or written with the meditative seriousness of an old man who loves his country and distrusts his less tolerant contemporaries. His surviving manuscripts preserve a substantial compilation of the Scots literature of his era, including many of his own compositions.
