Aaron David Bernstein

Aaron David Bernstein was a German Jewish author, reformer, and scientist. He established his reputation as a writer with his translation of the Song of Songs and his publication of Young Germany. He is recognized as one of the originators of the modern fiction genre of ghetto stories, demonstrated in his works Vögele der Maggid and Mendel Gibbor. Bernstein was also a publicist, founding newspapers that disseminated democratic views and led to his imprisonment, and actively participated in the movement for synagogue reform in Germany.
