John Barbour Books
John Barbour stands as the first major literary figure to compose in the Scots language. His principal surviving work, the historical verse romance "The Brus," is a cornerstone of Scottish literature. Although a churchman, Barbour's writing is decidedly secular in both its tone and themes, often imbued with a political undercurrent and a focus on advancing the interests of the future king.
