Thomas Jefferson was the foremost American son of the Enlightenment. He was a lawyer, agronomist, musician, scientist, philosopher, author, architect, inventor, and statesman. His writing, quiet work in committee, and ability to distill large volumes of information to essence made him an invaluable member of any deliberative body. His theories on self-governance and the rights of people establishing new habitats were conveyed through his letters and writings, most notably his draft of the Declaration of Independence.
