Of Alexandria Philo
Philo was a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher who sought to synthesize Greek and Jewish thought through philosophical allegory. His method merged Jewish exegesis with Stoic philosophy, exploring the complex nature of God beyond literal interpretation. He believed that rigid adherence to literal readings of scripture could limit humanity's perception of a divine being too marvelous for human terms. Philo's concept of the Logos as a divine blueprint for creation is thought to have influenced early Christology.
