George Cary Comstock

    George Cary Comstock was an American astronomer and educator who played a pivotal role in the organization of the American Astronomical Society, serving as its first secretary, vice president, and later president. His academic career included positions as assistant director and director of the Washburn Observatory and professor of mathematics and astronomy at Ohio State University. He also was instrumental in establishing graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin, where he became the first chair and later dean.
