Richard A. Proctor

Richard Proctor was an English astronomer best remembered for producing one of the earliest maps of Mars in 1867. His work, derived from the observations of others, was foundational in the early understanding of the Red Planet's surface. Proctor also contributed to determining the length of the Martian day, with his estimate proving remarkably close to modern values. His scientific legacy is honored by a crater on Mars bearing his name.
