Pope Gregory

Pope Gregory I, known as Saint Gregory the Great, was a vigilant guardian of Church doctrine. He founded numerous monasteries and a school for church musicians, where he collected melodies and plain chant now known as Gregorian Chants. He was a monk, abbot, and leader in Italy, leaving a momentous influence on the Catholic Church through doctrine, organization, and discipline. His writings, including Dialogues on the Lives of the Saints, represent one of his greatest accomplishments.
