Brahms's 'Sacred Song' ('Geistliches Lied') Op. 30 was composed in 1856 and takes the form of a double canon setting a text by Paul Fleming, starting with the line 'Let nothing ever grieve thee'. This edition is based on the famous Kurt Soldan edition for Edition Peters with an English translation by Walter E. Buszin. Buszin notes that there is much similarity between this work and the composer's 'German Requiem'.
