William Diller Matthew

William Diller Matthew was a vertebrate paleontologist whose primary focus was on mammal fossils. While his main contributions lie in this area, his early scholarly work also touched upon mineralogy, petrological geology, botany, and trilobites. Notably, he described Tetraceratops insignis, a specimen later identified as potentially the earliest known therapsid from the Early Permian period. Matthew's research significantly advanced our understanding of mammalian paleontology and evolutionary biology.
