Après un deuxième volume quasi muet qui laissait la part à la prouesse graphique, avec son long plan séquence de plus de 40 pages, le Shaolin Cowboy se dirige vers Palinbush, sans savoir que l'y attendent de vieux ennemis, Hog Kong et le Crabe Royal. Hog Kong est un cochon géant, venu du fin fond de l'Iowa (état où le cochon est roi). Après avoir vu le massacre de sa fratrie et de sa mère, il a été élevé par un ninja, qui en a fait un champion des arts martiaux. De son côté, le Crabe royal s'est greffé sur la tête d'une jeune femme qui était tombée amoureuse de lui

Le Shaolin cowboy traverse un désert sans fin à dos d'une mule particulièrement bavarde et un poil philosophe, lorsqu'il tombe dans le guet-apens du Roi Crabe et de ses (très) nombreux hommes de main. Le voyageur devra alors faire preuve d'habileté au kung-fu pour se débarrasser de ses (très) nombreux adversaires. Si seulement il n'avait pas massacré la famille du roi-crabe en dégustant un plateau de fruits de mer. Et pour tant, les ennuis ne font que commencer... Geof Darrow multiplie les scènes violentes comme les plus mauvais jeux de mots. Son dessin, d'une générosité extraordinaire, ne néglige aucun détail, pas un grain de sable ne manque dans ce désert pourtant si peuplé. Mais il ne faut pas s'y tromper, derrière ce livre de pure distraction, se cache le miroir à peine déformé d'une Amérique malade de ses excès de violence, de puritanisme, et de populisme.
