Blood Ice is a mystery novel set in the sparsely populated and semi-wilderness area of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, close to the rugged coastline of Lake Superior. Secondary settings include Hong Kong and San Francisco. The protagonist is Travis Gannon, a Conservation Officer newly assigned to the regional headquarters of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in Crystal Falls, MI. Travis is drawn into an investigation of the death of another Conservation Officer and its possible link to black bear poaching. Travis discovers a local black market poaching operation that sells bear gall bladders, valuable commodities in traditional Asian medicine, to members of a San Francisco Chinese Triad. As his investigation becomes embroiled with suspects, Travis' cabin is torched and his wife Angelique is missing. Travis embarks on a twisted and dangerous journey to find his wife and derail the black market operation.
