Sarah J. Maas is an American writer of fantasy literature for young and adults. She is known for her first book, The Glass Throne, which was published in the original in 2012.
Sarah Janet Maas was born on 5 March 1986 in New York City.
She attended Hamilton University in Clinton, New York, where she studied creative writing and took an interest in religionistics. She graduated from Magna cum laude in 2008.
Maas began writing her first novel, which then became the novel "The Glass Throne," at the age of 16. After writing several chapters and naming the novella Queen of Glass, she added it to the website FictionPress.com, where her story became one of the most popular. When she decided to write and publish the story as a stand-alone book, she removed the novella from the site. The storyline of the series is based on Cinderella, provided: "What if Cinderella wasn't a maid, but a murderer? And what if she didn't want to attend the ball to meet the prince, but to kill him?"
Maas is married and lives in Pennsylvania (2019). On November 22, 2017, she announced on Instagram that she and her husband were expecting their first child, a son. He was born in June 2018 and named Taran.
