George Douglas Howard Cole was an English political theorist, economist, writer, and historian, primarily recognized as a libertarian socialist and a dedicated member of the Fabian Society. Alongside his wife, he co-authored numerous popular detective stories, showcasing his versatility in genre fiction. His literary contributions extended to significant economic and historical works, often featuring biographies of influential figures. Cole also held esteemed academic positions, including a professorship in Social and Political Theory at Oxford University.
