Aubrey was among thousands of children who contracted poliomyelitis before the invention of the polio vaccine. At the tender age of six, he was left with a lifelong disability for which there was no cure or treatment. As a March of Dimes Poster Child he helped raise thousands of dollars to fight the disease. Unfortunately, no amount of money could give him back what he lost. After years of rehabilitation, the battle to fight the disease was far from over, or fair. Although he struggled to keep up with the able-bodied, he never gave up. He lived his life resilient and courageous as a polio survivor rather than a polio victim.
