Pierre Janet

Pierre Janet was a French psychologist, philosopher, and psychotherapist recognized as one of the founding fathers of psychology. He pioneered work in dissociation and traumatic memory, positing a link between past events and present trauma, and coined the terms "dissociation" and "subconscious." His study of the patient-hypnotist "rapport" anticipated later theories of transference. Janet developed a comprehensive model of the mind based on energy levels and social competence, influencing the understanding of personality construction in social terms.
