Also known as: Julia Quinn
Julia Quinn is an American author of novels about the Bridgerton family. Her first book, Duke and I, was based on the Bridgerton series on the Netflix streaming platform. Set in the years 1813 to 1827, the series and novels revolve around the 8 children of the Widow Bridgerton and the world of London's high society.
Julia Quinn, whose real name is Julie Cotler Pottinger, was born in the USA in 1970. A young successful author of historical romances. She spent her childhood in New England and subsequently, after her parents' divorce, in sunny California.
She has been an avid reader since childhood and devoured, among other things, the Chronicles of Narnia by Lewis. As she grew older, she began to read love stories for teenagers, much to her father's displeasure. In order to read them further, she told him that it was research, because she wanted to write such stories herself. She wrote the first two chapters of the novel in one evening, which she finished and sent three years later. However, it was rejected by the editors of the Sweet Dreams series (love stories for teenagers). In her senior year at Harvard University, Quinn realized she didn't know what to do with her bachelor's degree in art history. Eventually, she decided to become a doctor. However, in order to be admitted to medical school, she had to take additional courses.
During this time, she began to write Regency romance novels. When she finally had to choose between studying at Yale University or Columbia University, her first two novels, Splendid and Dancing At Midnight, became the subject of a dispute between the two publishers. As a result, Quinn received more money for her novels than usual for her first works and decided to postpone her studies to continue writing. After three published novels and three more to be published, Julia Quinn began studying medicine at Yale University, which she dropped out after a few months to devote herself fully to writing. She currently lives with her husband in the Pacific Northwest of the USA.
And so Julie writes and writes, collecting various awards for her work (most recently she won one of the Rita Awards in 2008 for her book The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever). Her greatest fame came from a series about the fates of the Bridgerton siblings. She dedicates most of her books to her husband Paul Pottinger, with whom she lives in the northwest of the USA.
