Like stars in the sky, pixels may seem like tiny, individual points. But, when viewed from a distance, they can create elaborate images. Each pixel contributes to this array, but no individual point can create the whole. The thirty stories that comprise Krisztina Tóth’s book similarly produce an interconnected web. While each tale of love, loss, and failed self-determination narrates the sensuousness of an individual’s life, together, the thirty stories tell a more complicated tale of relationships. Circumstances that appear unrelated may converge in harmony or in heartbreak, just as the events that loom largest may fail to produce a longed-for outcome. These threads often determine the course of lives in unpredictable ways—sometimes comic, sometimes tragic, but rarely in the ways we originally anticipated.

Barcode, Krisztina Toth's first substantial work in prose after four volumes of remarkable verse, consists of fifteen beautifully written and highly sensual short stories. Each story, apart from one, is told with poetic intensity and intimacy from a young, unnamed female narrator's point of view.

In November 2019, 30 famous poets from various countries will be in Hong Kong and ten cities in China afterwards to read their works based on the theme Speech and Silence. Toth Krisztina (Hungary) is one of the most popular and best known Hungarian authors and the recipient of the Graves Prize, the Dery Tibor Prize and the Attila Jozsef Prize.

A unique collection of five contemporary plays from 21st-century Hungary, translated into English for the first time. Written by some of Hungary's most highly prolific and commercially successful dramatic voices, these plays are being produced in their native Hungary by theatres that do not adhere to Viktor Orbán's values and offer a counterpoint to the commercial Boulevard Theatre scene of Budapest. Translator and theatre-maker Szilvi Naray-Davey champions these unheard voices through her performable and dramatically engaging translations. The plays are aimed at micro-budget productions and offer a special opportunity for students and small theatre companies alike to engage with these witty, politically irreverent plays, finally in English. Each of the selected playwrights has been in direct conflict with the Hungarian government and has been demonised by the state-controlled press. The five plays are thematically threaded together by their common use of strong leading female protagonists with an overarching theme of the family unit. Through the edited introduction the themes and feminine translation strategy discusses how the plays offer a microcosmic lens for understanding the paradox that today's Hungary exemplifies, making this a necessary study into the world of contemporary Hungary through drama.

2013 erschien im Nischen Verlag die deutsche Ausgabe von Krisztina Tóths Roman PIXEL, die es neben fulminanten Kritiken im deutschsprachigen Feuilleton auch auf Platz 1 der ORF-Bestenliste geschafft hat. Nun bringt der Nischen Verlag den neuen Roman AQUARIUM heraus. Eigentlich ist das geschilderte Leben von Großmutter, Mutter und Tochter ein tristes, geprägt von drückender Armut und Hoffnungslosigkeit. (Der zeitliche Rahmen spannt sich von den Jahren nach dem Krieg bis in die 70-er Jahre in Ungarn.) - Und doch gelingt es Krisztina Tóth, auch in den dunklen Szenarien eine gewisse Komik aufblitzen zu lassen und die sogenannten „kleinen Leute“ mit ihren Überlebenskämpfen in rührender Liebenswürdigkeit zu schildern: Da ist die absolut schräge Großmutter mit ihren wechselnden Liebhabern in ihrer Souterrain-Wohnung mit dem Aquarium, in dem nur die fittesten Fische überleben, die flatterhafte Mutter, die bei allen Entbehrungen doch immer wieder liebevolle Ziehmutter, da bevölkern geistig behinderte Verwandte, Krankenpfleger, Akrobaten und viele andere „schräge Vögel“ das Leben der kleinen Vera. Es sind skurril-liebenswerte Verlierer, die wie in einem Aquarium in ihrer gesellschaftlichen Schicht gefangen sind. Obwohl Krisztina Tóths Blick auf ihre Figuren schonungslos sezierend ist, mag man ihre „Helden“, nimmt man Anteil an ihrem Schicksal. Ein Buch, das berührt und das einen nicht mehr loslässt.

Die Akteure leben zwar an verschiedenen Orten und ihre Möglichkeiten und Wünsche weichen stark voneinander ab, aber eines haben sie gemeinsam: Sie stehen vor Augenblicken der Schicksalswende. Beinahe alle aber schieben die Entscheidung hinaus. Die unbeteiligt wirkende Erzählerin beobachtet diese Vorgänge aber leidenschaftlich und überaus empfindsam, als lese sie die Welt mit ihren eigenen Wunden. Sie schildert das vielfältige zwischenmenschliche Beziehungsgeflecht und während sie von schweren Schicksalen und zuweilen grotesken Szenen erzählt, blitzt überraschend ihr sublimer und sarkastischer Humor auf.
