Lying at the crucible of Central Europe, the Silesian village of Kupferberg suffered the violence of the Thirty Years War, the Napoleonic Wars, the World War I. After Stalin's post-World War II redrawing of Poland's borders, Kupferberg became Miedzianka, a town settled by displaced people from all over Poland and a new center of the Eastern Bloc's uranium-mining industry. Decades of neglect and environmental degradation led to the town being declared uninhabitable, and the population was evacuated. Today, it exists only in ruins, with barely a hundred people living on the unstable ground above its collapsing mines. Springer catalogs the lost human elements: the long-departed tailor and deceased shopkeeper; the parties, now silenced, that used to fill the streets with shouts and laughter, and the once-beautiful cemetery, with gravestones upended by tractors and human bones scattered by dogs. Jego prace wielokrotnie wystawiano w Polsce i za granicą. Aleksandra Kędziorek urodziła się w 1987 roku. Kuratorka, krytyczka i historyczka sztuki. Współredaktorka (wraz z Łukaszem Rondudą) książki Oskar Hansen – Opening Modernism (MSN 2014). Obecnie koordynuje w Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie projekt badawczy poświęcony twórczości Hansenów. Filip Springer urodził się w 1982 roku. Reporter i fotograf. Regularnie współpracuje z mediami ogólnopolskimi i lokalnymi. Publikował między innymi w „Polityce”, „Rzeczpospolitej”, „Przekroju, „Newsweeku”, „Wysokich Obcasach”. Autor wielu książek, m.in. bestsellerowych Źle urodzonych (Karakter 2012) oraz Zaczynu (Karakter, MSN 2013).

Offers a photographic tour of the iconic house of a Polish architect couple: Oskar Hansen, member of Team 10, and his wife, Zofia. This book is both a portrait of a specific dwelling and a larger analysis of the very idea of architects' houses and their relationship to their owners' work.

Following an international conference organized at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw in 2013, this book analyzes diverse aspects of the architectural, theoretical, and didactical oeuvre of Oskar Hansen, who was the Polish member of Team 10, a group of architects that challenged standard views of urbanism more than fifty years ago.
