Mechthild of Magdeburg was a medieval mystic whose work, inspired by visions of God and the Holy Spirit, became "The Flowing Light of Divinity." Her writings, filled with criticism of church dignitaries and religious laxity, stirred opposition. Despite isolation and blindness in her later years, she found refuge in a Cistercian convent, where she completed her literary contributions.
