Blut, diese lebenstragende Flüssigkeit, ist zunächst ein komplexes medizinisches Phänomen, das die Medizin schon seit Jahrtausenden ins Zentrum ihrer Aufmerksamkeit gestellt, gleichzeitig aber auch dauerhaft mythisiert hat. Auch die metaphysische, religiöse und rechtliche Rolle des Blutes ist seit dem Altertum Teil der Menschheitsgeschichte. Als interdisziplinäres Thema ist die Problematik des Blutes in ihren vielfältigen Aspekten nahezu unerschöpflich. Im Zentrum stehen Perspektiven in Medizin, Geschichte, Kunst und Gesellschaft.
Neben Krieg, Besatzung und Vertreibung, den großen Konflikten zwischen Deutschland und der Tschechoslowakei, sollte die Aufnahme von Flüchtlingen vor den Diktaturen des 20. Jahrhunderts in beiden Nachbarstaaten nicht vergessen werden. Erfahrungen hatten beide Republiken bei der Integration der Flüchtlinge aus dem entstehenden Sowjetstaat gewonnen. Nach 1933 suchten Deutsche, seit 1938 auch Österreicher, unter ihnen vor allem Juden Schutz in der demokratischen Tschechoslowakei. Nationalsozialistische Sudetendeutsche wählten den entgegengesetzten Weg. Seitdem die Kommunisten in Prag und Bratislava die alleinige Macht übernommen hatten, boten die Westzonen bzw. die Bundesrepublik Deutschland mehreren Wellen tschechischer und slowakischer Flüchtlinge Asyl. Es geht in den folgenden Beiträgen also um eine im Wesentlichen positive Seite der gegenseitigen Beziehungen trotz einiger negativer Details.
