Richard is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. After teaching in Atlanta for thirty years, he retired to the desert and now lives in Palm Springs, California. His novels, drawing from his life and experiences in the South, are prized for their thoughtful explorations of American culture. While characters are stereotypical of Southern culture, the town itself is a product of his imagination.
