Yuri Olyesha

Yury Olesha was a Soviet author of fiction, plays, and satires, best known for his 1927 novel Envy. He is considered one of the greatest Russian novelists of the 20th century, succeeding in creating works of lasting artistic merit despite the era's stifling censorship. His writings are delicate balancing acts, superficially conveying pro-Communist messages while revealing far greater subtlety and richness upon deeper reading. His subtle approach allowed him to craft enduring art within a restrictive environment.
