Johnston McCulley was a prolific author whose output spanned hundreds of stories, dozens of novels, and numerous screenplays for film and television. He began his career as a police reporter, later becoming a prolific writer for pulp magazines, often setting his tales in Southern California. McCulley was a visionary storyteller who gifted the world the iconic character of Zorro, but also created a pantheon of other memorable heroes. His creations have inspired and continue to inspire masked protagonists in popular culture.
