PronPack 1: Pronunciation Workouts consists of extended drills targeting specific areas of English pronunciation, akin to the scales pianists practice for technique. These workouts train the vocal articulators—tongue, lips, jaw, and vocal cords. They offer learners two main benefits: practice and perception. The practice aspect helps the mouth muscles adapt to the unfamiliar movements needed for English speech, while the perception aspect enhances awareness of pronunciation features through repetition, making them more noticeable. The initial workouts concentrate on the English sound system, familiarizing learners with it through the PronPack Sound Chart. They explore various components, such as short vowels and stop consonants, increasing awareness of mouth and vocal tract articulators. Later workouts shift focus to suprasegmental features, including word stress, connected speech, and tonic stress. This printed resource includes worksheets for students and teacher’s notes, which provide background on pronunciation points, step-by-step activity guidelines, teaching focus, minimum student levels, and printing requirements. Additional materials, including audio and printable resources, are available at www.pronpack.com. PronPack comprises four resource books, each offering a unique approach to pronunciation teaching, allowing for selection or complementary use.
