Sab constituye una singular aportación a la novela antiesclavista. La autora sigue en ella los modelos típicos de la novela romántica y mezcla reminiscencias autobiográficas y modelos literarios. Hay en ella un alegato reivindicador de la dura vida de los negros, indios y la barbarie española en general.
