Maurice Blondel Biography
November 2, 1861 – June 4, 1949
Maurice Blondel was a French philosopher whose seminal works sought to establish a proper relationship between autonomous philosophical reasoning and Christianity. He developed a 'philosophy of action' that integrated Neoplatonic thought with modern Pragmatism within a Christian framework. Blondel posited that action alone could never satisfy the human yearning for the transfinite, a fulfillment he believed only God, the 'first principle and last term,' could provide. His writings sparked significant philosophical controversy and profoundly influenced later Catholic thought.
