The formally nonchalant work of Kathrin Partelli is a generous act of daydreaming the sculpture as a medium of a particular potency and richness. Through a liberating and emancipatory gesture of expanding the space, the artist negotiates the sculpture as a cross-disciplinary, performative collage, between a drawing in space, installation and an architectural construction. eigentlich (2010), as actually the title suggests, is Partelli’s manifesto of an ontological condition of her multidimensional work. Left undefined as such, it indicates a process: a moment of about to be delivered and articulated, a constant state of becoming and birth. Applying contrasting materials (soft and hard, fragile and solid) and techniques (focused on almost simultaneous attempts of building up and destroying, accumulating and reducing).

Human Condition untersucht Übergangsriten, die von den sozialen, politischen und kulturellen Entwicklungen verschiedener Gesellschaften des neuen Jahrtausends geprägt sind. Die Komplexität der aktuellen Situation, in der das Prekariat und die Brüchigkeit globaler Wirtschaftssysteme und politischer Ordnungen im Vordergrund stehen, ruft nach einer eingehenden Reflexion von zeitgenössischen Mechanismen sozialer Bewegungen und Arbeitsstrukturen, von der Machtverteilung und der Ethik des Urteilsvermögens. Human Condition examines rite of passages that have been affected by the social, political and cultural developments in various societies in the new century. The complexity of the current situation, in which the precariousness and fragility of global economic systems and political orders are very much in the foreground, calls for a detailed reflection on the present mechanisms of social change, the structures of work, the spread of power and the ethics of judgement.

For the past two decades, Portuguese artist Pedro Cabrita Reis has deconstructed architectural, sculptural and painterly processes, formulating a unique body of abstract installations. This catalogue documents the True Gardens series and includes images of previous sites as well as installation views of the most recent iteration at Austria's Kunsthaus Graz.

Volksgarten zielt auf ein umfassendes Porträt der Stadtbezirke Lend und Gries, an deren Schnittstelle sich das Kunsthaus Graz befindet. Der Titelbegriff impliziert die sowohl abstrakte als auch konkrete Verortung eines offenen und demokratischen Raumes, in dem vielfältigste Identitäten geformt und somit auch verhandelt werden. In ihrem multikulturellen Gepräge und in ihrer ethnischen und sozialen Vielfältigkeit fungieren Lend und Gries als Metapher für urbanen, politischen, kulturellen und nationalen Wandel. Die Publikation geht Identifikationssystemen und Strategien der Zugehörigkeit innerhalb bestimmter Communities auf den Grund.

Die polnische Künstlerin Monika Sosnowska, die Polen auf der diesjährigen Biennale in Venedig vertritt, arbeitet mit dem Raum und über den Raum. In Vaduz hat Sosnowska die Oberlichtsäle des Museums in ein geschlossenes System von Korridoren mit leeren weißen Flächen verwandelt: aseptisch, klaustrophobisch und labyrinthisch, wie wir sie aus Krankenhäusern und Zentralen unserer Bürokratie kennen. Das Buch macht in Raumaufnahmen und Essays die Arbeiten der jungen Künstlerin in ihrer Physis bewusst. ****************************************************** In a number of recent works Monika Sosnowska has transgressed the rather artificial border between contemporary art and architecture.
