Píše se rok 1940. První říjen se v koncentračním táboře nijak neliší od jiných dnů, plných krutosti a vraždění židovských zajatců. Podobné scény se odehrávají i v desítkách dalších táborů po celé zemi, stejné je to i v Kempu 17 v okrese Howard, u města Florence ve státě Maryland v USA. V amerických prezidentských volbách v roce 1932 zvítězil Charles Lindbergh, kandidát Americké árijské aliance. K moci se tak fakticky dostal Ku Klux Klan, který spolu s Edgarem Hooverem a jeho všemocnou FBIS v USA nastolil nacionalistický policejní režim. V roce 1940 drží Evropu ve svých rukou hitlerovské Německo. Spojené státy prozatím zachovávají neutralitu, ale spojenectví s Němci je na spadnutí. Poslední ostrůvek svobody a demokracie, Velká Británie, vysílá do USA svého agenta Johna Ridgeforta s tajným posláním, které ještě může zvrátit zdánlivě beznadějnou situaci. Na Ridgefortovi leží odpovědnost za budoucnost světové demokracie.
