Jura Soyfer

    December 8, 1912 – February 16, 1939

Jura Soyfer was a satirist and playwright whose work fiercely commented on the political events of his time. Cultivated in a family with a linguistic sensibility, he developed a passion for wordplay and political cabaret. Soyfer aimed to elevate theatre beyond mere entertainment, advocating for its politicization and approaching Bertolt Brecht's concept of epic theatre. His sharp satire targeting authoritarian figures and his politically charged writing ultimately led to his imprisonment in concentration camps, where, amidst dire conditions, he co-created the renowned Dachau song.
