Hlavní hrdina Álvaro, šlechtic z dobré rodiny, zkusí na popud přátel vyvolat ďábla, který se mu ovšem zjeví v podobě krásné dívky Biondetty. Ta se do Álvara zamiluje, všemi prostředky ho svádí, vede s ním hovory o peklu, zemi a nebi a snaží se ho přesvědčit o svých nevinných úmyslech. Vyprávění nabité magickým kouzlem poezie a nádherných obrazů je záměrně drženo na hraně skutečnosti a snové vize.
