William Francis Ganong Jr.

    July 6, 1924 – December 23, 2007

    William Francis Ganong was a Canadian botanist and historian who significantly contributed to the historical and geographical understanding of his native New Brunswick. His professional career focused on botany, serving as a professor at Smith College. However, in his private life, he dedicated himself to studying the history and mapping of his homeland, often creating his own maps of his explorations. His lifelong interest in nature and languages, including knowledge of Indigenous tongues, enriched his research.
