Mit beiden Ansätzen wird das Gespräch aufgenommen, eigentliches Ziel der Darstellung ist jedoch die Suche nach der "essentia" des Christentums in der modernen Welt. Forte knüpft somit an deutsche Theologie und Philosophie an, stellt aber die spezifische "Katholizität" der christlichen Botschaft, insbesondere die Kontinuität des Glaubens in der Zeit, in den Vordergrund.
