Při překladu do češtiny bylo užito 2. anglického vydání (A Concise History of Mathematics, London, G. Bell and Sons Ltd, 1956), z nejnovějšího německého překladu (Abriss der Geschichte der Mathematik, Deutscher Verlag der Wissenschaften, Berlin , 1961) byly převzaty partie, které upřesňovaly či doplňovaly původní anglický text. Autorův text byl zpřesněn v partiích týkajících se čínské matematiky. Pro našeho čtenáře připojili překladatelé na příslušných místech textu též odstavce o vývoji matematiky v našich zemích. Přeložili dr. Luboš Novotný CSc a Jaroslav Folta CSc, kteří také napsali partie o dějinách české matematiky, kapitolu Hlavní období vývoje matematiky, stať o autorovi, encyklopedické heslo a sestavili seznam literatury.
