Constance Black Garnett

Constance Garnett was a pioneering English translator of Russian literature. Her work introduced the literary giants Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Anton Chekhov to the English-speaking public on a broad scale. As one of the very first English translators of these seminal Russian authors, she played a crucial role in their widespread dissemination. Garnett's translations continue to shape the reception of Russian literature in the English-speaking world.
