Velleius Paterculus
Marcus Velleius Paterculus, a Roman soldier and commander, served under the early emperors Augustus and Tiberius. He is best known for his concise "Compendium of Roman History," which chronicles the period from Rome's legendary origins to the death of the first empress, Livia. While his work is a valuable resource, it exhibits a bias towards the imperial family and occasional mediocre research. Nevertheless, Paterculus offers a unique perspective from his own military and political experiences across the empire.
