Das Stück, das Georg Kaiser den Durchbruch als expressionistischer Dramatiker brachte, kann als Modell für expressionistisches Menschheitspathos und die Utopie vom ”neuen Menschen“ gelten. Die hochsymbolische und pathetische Bühnenhandlung macht das Stück zu einem einzigartigen literarischen Dokument.
