Paul Keller

July 6, 1873 – August 20, 1932

Paul Keller was a German writer and publicist whose works achieved immense popularity in the first half of the 20th century, evidenced by over 5 million copies sold and translations into 17 languages. His earlier works are lauded for their artistic power and mastery, while later writings show a degree of simplification. Keller is described as a Silesian regional author whose novels, originating in the late Naturalist period, unsparingly depict human frailty and harsh fates. Yet, in line with Keller's Christian worldview, his writing also consistently offers positive perspectives and examples of meaningful life. His prose is noted for its coziness and its aim to evoke emotion in the reader.
