The evolution of computer graphics has reached remarkable fidelity due to decades of research and significant hardware advancements. Modern graphics cards feature extensive dedicated hardware and immense processing power for sophisticated light transport simulations. However, this high-end hardware is costly, power-hungry, and generates substantial heat. An alternative is mobile GPUs, which offer a more affordable solution with limited processing capabilities. The automotive industry has begun integrating these GPUs into high-end dashboards to create modern, interactive experiences. This shift towards dynamic displays is influenced by the near photorealism of contemporary images, which typically require expensive hardware. The challenge lies in generating appealing visuals within the constraints of mobile GPUs. This dissertation explores and combines existing techniques that work within these limitations. It introduces a new method for pre-computing and storing a significant portion of light transport calculations. The first proposal merges a progressive Level-of-Detail technique with normal map filtering for stateless mesh filtering, addressing vertex clustering issues and enabling aliasing-free, high-frequency specular shading. The study also considers the determinism required in automotive visualization and examines the application and compression of Geometry-buffer sequences for configurable video playback. Lastly, it prop

Insurance linked securities
The Role of the Banks
Securitisations of insurance risk as new methods of risk transfer have been emerging in the global financial market during the recent twenty years. Christoph Weber analyses the techniques of traditional methods in comparison with securitisations for life- and non-life insurance risk. During his stay for expert interviews in the USA in October 2008 the investment bank Lehman Brothers defaulted triggering one of the deepest global economic crises in history. Strengths and weaknesses of the different products became obvious. In addition, an online survey about the market status and the banks’ role is analysed. Readers get an insight into the drivers and obstacles the different stakeholder groups face.

Uncertainty in the Electric Power Industry
Methods and Models for Decision Support

The book explores the challenges faced by electricity-generating companies amid global liberalization and privatization of the electricity industry. It highlights how increased competition exposes utilities to significant risks and uncertainties, including volatile wholesale prices and fuel price fluctuations. Unlike in regulated environments, utilities cannot transfer these risks to customers through price hikes. The discussion emphasizes the impact of sunk investments and the limited options for long-term hedging, providing a comprehensive look at the evolving landscape of the electricity market.
