Lorna Wing

    October 7, 1928 – June 6, 2014

This British psychiatrist is a pioneer in the research of autism spectrum disorders. Driven by personal experience with her autistic daughter, she dedicated her career to studying developmental disorders and co-founded the National Autistic Society. Her influential work, particularly her paper that popularized the concept of Asperger's syndrome, significantly advanced the understanding and recognition of autism, though she herself noted limitations in her early case studies. Her approach is characterized by a deep engagement with the clinical realities and lived experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum.
