Die Theorie aber ist es, welche das handwerksmäßig Hergestellte durch inneres Verständnis und aufgrund der Verhältnisgesetze erklären und erörtern kann. So konnten die Baumeister, welche ohne rein wissenschaftliche Schule ihr Bestreben nur auf Handfertigkeit gerichtet hatten, es nicht dahin bringen, ein ihren Leistungen entsprechendes Ansehen zu erlangen; diejenigen aber, welche sich auf Theorien und wissenschaftliche Ausbildung allein gestützt, scheinen einen Schatten und nicht die Sache angestrebt zu haben. Hingegen diejenigen, welche sich beides eigen gemacht, erreichten schneller und mit glänzendem Erfolge ihr vorgesetztes Ziel.
