This volume is a polemic for freedom - or more concretely, for a liberal criminal law in Common Europe. In the conflict between security and freedom, the fragile constitutional criminal law is in danger of being crushed completely. The populist concept of promising total security destroys the very foundation of what it hopes to secure. The consequence is: Freedom is surely dying with security! The national differences within the European Union seek a common and reliable justification of liberal criminal law principles in a common European constitution. A minimalist but absolute constitutional criminal law is the „crash test dummy“ that will be sacrificed in the interest of the European integration process. European criminal law principles partially proved themselves with a promising philosophical start over several centuries, especially in Britain and France. However, they have been eroded, and now must prove themselves fully. Even worse, if these principles are ignored, the idea of a „United Europe“ vanishes. Never forget: It is freedom that constitutes the foundation of unity. Freedom brings about security. This is what this polemic demands.

Peter Albrecht arbeitete in den 1980er Jahren acht Jahre lang als Filmvorführer im Capitol-Kino an der Bahnhofstraße in Plauen. Diese prägende Zeit weckte nicht nur sein dauerhaftes Interesse am Lichtspielwesen, sondern ließ ihn auch tief in die damalige Kinokultur eintauchen – eine Welt, die sich seither grundlegend verändert hat. Mit seiner Veröffentlichung möchte Albrecht zeigen, wie Kino früher einmal funktionierte – technisch, organisatorisch und atmosphärisch. Dabei richtet sich seine Rückschau besonders an jene, die in den 1970er Jahren und früher geboren wurden und mit dem Capitol-Kino persönliche Erinnerungen verbinden – an Kinderfilme, Jugendtage und nicht zuletzt an die Jugendweihe, die für viele eng mit dem Kinoerlebnis verknüpft war. Die Schrift ist in drei thematische Abschnitte gegliedert: Unter „Aus der Historie“ schildert der Autor die Geschichte des Lichtspieltheaters, basierend auf Recherchen im Stadtarchiv Plauen, in alten Adressbüchern, Zeitungsartikeln und Online-Quellen. Der Abschnitt „Erinnerungen“ enthält persönliche Erlebnisse aus seiner Zeit als Filmvorführer. Ergänzt wird das Heft durch originale Fotografien aus dem Jahr 1988, die mit kurzen Erläuterungen versehen sind.

Nach den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2011 wurde eine mediale Maschinerie in Gang gesetzt, die eine Rückbesinnung auf die Ausgangssituation verhinderte und ein vereinfachtes Feindbild schuf. Das Buch behandelt das Wir-der-Westen-und-unsere-feinde-Schema und die damit verbundenen Herausforderungen.
