Banesh Hoffmann

    September 6, 1906 – August 5, 1986

Banesh Hoffmann was a theoretical physicist and mathematician who delved deeply into the principles of general relativity. His work with Albert Einstein and Leopold Infeld led to the significant discovery that the equation of motion inherently followed from Einstein's field equations. Hoffmann dedicated himself to teaching relativity and quantum mechanics, continuing to contribute to the understanding of these complex subjects. Beyond his scientific endeavors, he was also a literary enthusiast, evidenced by his Sherlock Holmes-inspired short story.

This timeless exploration of the work of the great physicists of the early 20th century employs analogies, examples, and imaginative insights rather than computations to explain the dramatic impact of quantum physics on classical theory. Topics include Pauli's exclusion principle, Schroedinger's wave equation, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, and many other concepts. 1959 edition.
