      This volume contains results of numerical, asymptotic and experimental investigations of flow structures heat transfer in convective systems dominated by vortices. Transverse and longitudinal steady, self-oscillating and turbulent vortices are considered. The vortices are generated by geometrical manipulation of the surface, except in one case where jet interaction is used. The numerical investigations employ DNS and LES for the solution of unsteady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, the experimental investigations use Laser-Doppler and hot-wire velocimetry, liquid crystal and infrared thermography, and an ammonia absorption technique for the determination of velocity and temperature fields and local heat fluxes. The papers of this volume are the product of more than six years of intensive research of the DFG-supported research group „Vortices and Heat Transfer“. They will be of interest to graduate students and researchers as well as to engineers searching for more efficient transfer surfaces.
