Kurt Eissler

    June 2, 1908 – February 17, 1999

Kurt R. Eissler was a psychoanalyst deeply engrossed in the life and work of Sigmund Freud, becoming a prominent follower and defender of Freudian theory. His extensive writings explored both Freud's concepts and the minds of cultural giants like Shakespeare and Goethe. Eissler notably championed the death drive and introduced the concept of the 'parameter' to describe deviations from pure interpretation in psychoanalysis. He viewed creative art as originating from an asocial element within the artist, offering a resolution to conflict without necessarily being shared by the creator.
