Der Vergleich als konstitutives Element des Erkenntnisprozesses mit der Möglichkeit begrifflicher Differenzierung und/oder als Ordnungsverfahren macht ihn in vielen Wissenschaftsbereichen zur zentralen Methode. Die AMPF-Tagung 2010 im Kloster Frenswegen/Nordhorn widmete sich dem Vergleich in unterschiedlichen Gegenstandsbereichen. Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge dokumentieren eindrücklich seine hohe Relevanz in der musikpädagogischen Forschung, regen zu weiteren Untersuchungen an, machen aber gleichzeitig auf Desiderate aufmerksam. So weist beispielsweise der Gastbeitrag von Lucy Green auf die komplexe Bildung musikalischer Identitäten in einer globalisierten und glokalisierten Welt hin, die bisher zu wenig Berücksichtigung in der Musikpädagogik gefunden hat. Comparison as a method to determine and quantify relationships has widely been accepted as an indispensable element of research. This edition of the proceedings of the 32nd annual conference of the German Association for Research in Music Education (AMPF) covers a wide range of topics from improvisational strategies, to vocal practice in schools from a systemic constructivist perspective etc. In addition several quantitative and qualitative studies put emphasis on comparison in music educational research from various perspectives.

Diverse musical cultures of migrant and minority communities have existed in Europe for centuries and shaped its countries significantly. As part of an EU-funded project this volume deals with the musical activities of minorities and their impact on musical traditions in Europe. It also raises questions such as: How are musical traditions of minorities integrated in education and the public music life? Can music facilitate transcultural dialogue? And to what extent do musical practice and performance reassert the own cultural tradition in a foreign environment? Answers to those and similar questions as well as a review on what can be observed in the 21st century Europe are gathered in various thematic approaches. The book also provides model projects with a practical insight into the life and work with music of migrant and minority cultures across Europe.
