The present volume contains papers with multidisciplinary approach, ranging from paleontology and Quaternary geology to geophysics, hydrogeology, economic geology and geotectonics. It was published on the occasion of the 31st International Geological Congress, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August 2000, to collate the results of joint research projects between German and Latin-American geoscientists.
